The Experience of being mentored

The Experience of being mentored

After starting university, I have been mentored by an experienced business man who has been in business for the best part of his life and who has experienced a lot of changes in the world of business, after working in London, he now owns his own company in Southend on Sea, who are a company that provides insurance for new home owners.
After being mentored by him I feel that I am more prepared for the business world and I am more knowledgeable then before. The key things which I have learnt from my mentor are interview skills, presentation skills, how to dress for not only interviews but for jobs and how to layout documents in the right way, the skills which I learnt from my mentor will not only help when I am studying at university but also when going out to work too.

Research Methodology

Research Methodology
The research methods which shall be used with this topic for this paper are books and the internet this is to find different quotes on what people believe about video games and violence and whether the two are linked or not. However I did not put any questionnaires or surveys into my essay but if I had more time then I would have done so to provide more research for my essay.

Hypothesis

Hypothesis
How video games have affected violence in today’s society and the way people think and act after playing video games?

Literature Review

Literature Review
Computer Games and Violence

Bendall and Raybould (1969) described the use of academic games for learning as generating excitement and enjoyment, Goodman (1971) and Taylor and Walford (1972) also agreed with what Bendall and Raybould wrote, while Lowe (1975) suggested games could be used to motivate the learner and retention of factual knowledge. Now in 2009 these games do not focus on the learning content but instead focus’s on the problem-solving activities that require ingenuity. The specific learning activities the user undergoes when playing are based on Anderson and Krathwohl’s learning goals - remembering, understanding, applying, judgement and analysing (Anderson and Krathwohl (2001).

VARK Questionaire

By completing the VARK questionaire in the lecture, I have found that I am a Aural learner, but I found that all the results I got were all close to my highest one. Here I have shown the results I got from the VARK Questionaire:-
Visual - 2
Aural - 5
Read/Write - 4
Kinesthetic - 4

As an Aural learner, I find listening to people give information about a subject easier then just getting on with it and learning from doing it.
Another one that I prefer is to read or write something down, this is because I prefer to read instructions to learn how to do something instead of just having a go with whatever needs to have instructions.

The last two I feel don't relate to me as much as the first to do but sometimes I do like to look at how to do something, this can be taking a look at something which is shown to me on the computer or someone who is showing something to me physically.

Reflection on learning line

When I look at my learning line I’m able to see that education has played a big part of what I have learnt so far in my life time but also as I look at it, sport comes onto it also which makes me think that I don’t just learn and work in life but I also can socialise by playing sports.

I have played for a couple of football teams who play in a local league at under 16 and at senior level. This plays an important part in my life because I am always trying to improve in football, I train 1 or 2 times a week and play matches when I can.

I stayed on for 3 years at sixth form to do a BTEC National and First Diploma along with A Levels, I also belong to the Career Academy which I gradurated from earlier in 2009, that provided me with a work internship for 6 weeks in the summer of 2008.

I have worked in a number of places who deal with buying and selling goods to other companies, dealing with computers and maintaining them for the business and serving at a cafe.
